HOT website

http://xnet.rrc.mb.ca/glenh/hots.htm

Want a HOT new website to promote higher order thinking in your classroom?

Higher order thinking, or “HOT” for short, takes thinking to higher levels than restating the facts. HOT requires that we do something with the facts. We must understand them, infer from them, connect them to other facts and concepts, categorize them, manipulate them, put them together in new or novel ways, and apply them as we seek new solutions to new problems.

This website will provides you with multiple methods of assessments using Bloom's Taxonomy.  It gives you all kinds of approaches to higher order thinking to engage students.  Just click the link, try it out and let me know how you are using it in your classroom.

  1. I like the part titled "Head-on Approaches to Teaching Higher-Order Thinking." It gives sample activities to try out. I will let you know how it goes!

  2. I really loved the Head-on Approaches to Teaching Higher-Order Thinking that the HOT page suggested. This is a great way to get students thinking outside the box and being creative with their writing at the same time. This is something I would like to incorporate in my week. Maybe I could start doing one every Friday morning, just as something fun and different for my students to do.
There was also a lot of great sentence starters that could be useful when giving feedback and during discussions. This is something I will print to keep handy on my desk.

  4. I really like the idea of Thinking Thursdays. I think we need to be intentional on setting aside a day and time to practice higher order thinking. Our feedback notebooks would be a great place to practice teaching critical thinking. This website will be a great resource to help us as we write our short answer responses. I like seeing the different examples on how to word these responses.

  5. I love the questions for quality thinking at each level of blooms amped will copy them to use during conferencing. Also in math I do a word problem Wednesday and a Fast FactFriday and will add a Thinking Thursday and incorporate many of these ideas. I did not read it all but love what I have seen so far, thanks for thinking of me and I will keep I touch of how and what I am using from it. I will share with my team.

  7. I really enjoyed reading the sectioned titled "Questions to encourage higher ordered thinking." It gave some great suggestions of ways to encourage students to think through new situations and connect them to what they already understand. I also really enjoyed the Head-on Approach section.
